$9M CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL IN WEIJA NEARS COMPLETION

The Vice President’s dedication to improving healthcare for Ghana’s youngest citizens is evident as the new children’s hospital in Weija reaches 65% completion. This $9 million, 120-bed facility, funded by the World Bank, is set to alleviate the strain on Accra’s aging Princess Marie Louise Hospital.

During a site visit, contractor Joseph Adams of Awerco Construction Limited assured Health Minister Dr. Bernard Okoe Boye that the project is on track for a September completion. The new hospital will feature state-of-the-art amenities, including emergency units, neonatal and pediatric ICUs, recovery wards, theatres, VIP wards, imaging and biomedical laboratories, an outpatient department (OPD), and a mother’s hotel.

Dr. Okoe Boye commended the progress and urged the contractors to employ skilled locals to support the community. He highlighted this project as a testament to the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia administration’s commitment to enhancing pediatric care in Ghana.

“This new hospital will significantly enhance healthcare delivery for children in Accra and beyond,”

Dr. Okoe Boye stated, underlining the broader governmental effort to improve healthcare infrastructure nationwide, with special attention to child health. Similar progress is being made on the 500-unit Maternity and Children’s Block at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi.
