A prominent member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Kwabena Sarpong has drawn parallels between the presidential candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, and his potential vice president, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, with civil rights icons Martin Luther King and Malcolm X.
During an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme on Wednesday, Kwabena Sarpong, drew a comparison between the party’s flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, and his proposed running mate.
Mr. Sarpong expressed his belief that the duo is the perfect pair to lead the NPP to victory in the upcoming election.
I describe this pair as Malcolm X and Martin Luther King and that is what the party needs and that is what we have gotten and we are going to win the election.
He elaborated by stating that Dr. Bawumia is akin to the NPP’s Martin Luther King, whereas the Manhyia South Member of Parliament and Energy Minister, NAPO, is compared to Malcolm X.
We are determined and happy with that selection. The only thing we are waiting for is for the National Council to give their blessings and I believe they will although there are oppositions.
Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X were advocates with contrasting strategies in the fight for civil rights. Their divergent methods often positioned them as adversaries in the battle against racial discrimination and white dominance.
While Martin Luther promoted peaceful demonstrations, Malcolm X advocated for black individuals to defend themselves “by any means necessary.”
