Despite circulating rumors, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the immediate past Energy Minister, remains firmly in his role as the Running Mate to New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
Known as NAPO, Dr. Opoku Prempeh was officially unveiled in Kumasi, Ashanti Region, and has been actively engaging with traditional leaders while preparing for a nationwide campaign tour.
A viral press statement on social media erroneously claimed that Dr. Opoku Prempeh had submitted a resignation letter, stepping down as Running Mate following a controversial remark about Ghana’s first President, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah. However, Fiifi Boafo, the Spokesperson for Dr. Opoku Prempeh, has categorically denied these claims.
In an interview with Kwami Sefa Kayi on Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” morning show, Boafo clarified, “It is rather his job as Energy Minister that he has resigned from, but it is never true that he has stepped down as a Running Mate.”
As the campaign progresses, Dr. Opoku Prempeh remains committed to his role, focusing on garnering support across the nation. His dedication to the campaign and the NPP’s vision underscores his steadfastness despite the unfounded rumors.
