Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has provided further details on the government’s District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP).
The District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP) provided ultra-modern earth-moving machines to all districts across the country. This initiative was aimed at improving road infrastructure, with a particular focus on feeder and access roads, as these roads await permanent construction. The introduction of DRIP is part of the government’s broader efforts to ensure that even the most remote areas of the country are connected through better road networks, facilitating economic growth and accessibility for all citizens.
During his campaign visit to Ahafo Ano South on Tuesday, Dr. Bawumia addressed local stakeholders, emphasizing that the DRIP was implemented as a direct result of the government’s strong commitment to “inclusive road development.” He highlighted that the programme reflects the NPP government’s vision to enhance road infrastructure in every district, ensuring no region is left behind in the country’s development.
We realized that in so many districts, the roads were bad. So, we decided to for these machines to all Districts to help get these roads in shape before major contractors come on them.
That’s why we decided to buy for every district; roller, excavator, grader, concrete mixer, tipper truck, etc. We have given these to every district in Ghana.
Work has already started in the districts and I believe it will help a lot to address these road challenges. Your roads and generally roads in Ghana are very dear to me and I assure you that as President, I will make it a priority,
Dr. Bawumia said.
The DRIP initiative, which has empowered the Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in road improvement and maintenance, has received widespread praise from Chiefs, Imams, the Clergy, and other key stakeholders. These groups have lauded the programme for its positive impact on local infrastructure, noting that it has significantly improved access to various communities and enhanced the overall development of the regions. The initiative’s success has been a key example of how effective local governance and targeted investment in road infrastructure can drive progress across the country.
