The Vice President and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Presidential Candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has returned to his hometown of Walewale in the North East Region in preparation for the elections scheduled for Saturday.
This marks Dr. Bawumia’s inaugural bid for the presidency, and he is expected to cast his vote in Kperiga, a neighborhood within Walewale, where he is also registered as a voter.
Having held the position of Vice President under President Nana Akufo-Addo for the past eight years, Dr. Bawumia will appear on the presidential ballot for the first time.
His candidacy signifies a significant milestone in his distinguished political career, which commenced in 2008 when he shifted from a banking career to politics after being selected as Akufo-Addo’s running mate.
His ascent has been praised by numerous individuals, including former President John Agyekum Kufuor, who characterized his political journey as “an act of destiny.”

During his campaign, Dr. Bawumia has focused on the theme of economic transformation through the engagement of the private sector, offering tax incentives to encourage greater participation from private enterprises.
The NPP candidate has also committed to enhancing Ghana’s educational framework and providing digital skills training for one million young individuals. He asserts that this initiative is designed to equip the youth with essential skills to secure employment opportunities both domestically and abroad.
