Mahamudu Bawumia, the designated Flagbearer of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the year 2024, has expressed his deep appreciation for the church’s significant role in the development of Ghana.
Dr. Bawumia expressed his belief that by increasing their incentives, the church and faith-based organizations can significantly contribute more. During a meeting with Christian leaders in the Western Region on Thursday(2 May) as part of his campaign tour, Bawumia emphasized the church’s role as one of Ghana’s primary development partners.
If you look at the church, for example, the church has done so much for the country. It has built Schools, and hospitals, taking care of people, it’s just phenomenal what the church has done.
So if you are looking for development partners in our country, they are not foreigners. The development partners, our number one are the church and their faith-based organizations. How many schools do our development partners build for us?
Bawumia stressed that the church has contributed a lot with regard to developing the nation by establishing various infrastructures like schools and hospitals and to push for more, there is the need to provide incentives for the churches and faith-based organizations.
What is the number of hospitals they construct? So, how can we capitalize on this and provide encouragement to the church and faith-based organizations to increase their efforts? This is where I propose an improved incentive for our churches and faith-based organizations.
Consequently, he has advocated for enhanced cooperation between the church and the government in overseeing educational institutions within the nation. By advocating for enhanced cooperation, Dr. Bawumia envisions a system where religious organizations and the government work hand in hand to establish educational policies, curriculum guidelines, and standards that align with both religious teachings and national educational objectives. This approach aims to strike a balance between imparting religious values and knowledge while also providing a comprehensive education that equips students with the necessary skills and knowledge to thrive in a diverse and rapidly changing world.
And therefore, I want to see a closer relationship. Let us open and see how best some of the churches can help us in the management of our schools, for example.
