The flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, took his constituency-focused tour to Kasoa, where he called on Ghanaians to vote for a future of progress and development.
Speaking to the people of Kasoa, Dr. Bawumia encouraged residents to make a choice for a brighter future, rooted in competence, innovation, and growth. He highlighted the shortcomings of the previous administration under Mahama, reminding the people of the challenges they faced and urging them not to return to a period marked by economic hardship and instability.
Dr. Bawumia, in his address to the enthusiastic crowd laid out the stakes of the upcoming elections and also presented himself as the candidate with a clear vision to drive Ghana forward, contrasting his agenda with the past record of former President John Dramani Mahama
This election is for our future .We are two candidates on top of the race wanting to become presidents
We are Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and former President Mahama.
He expressed confidence in the NPP’s ability to deliver on its promises and build on its record of progress. Dr. Bawumia was clear about the differences between the two candidates, emphasizing that Ghanaians had already experienced the leadership of John Mahama and knew the results:
As for the former president, he has been a leader before. We all witnessed his performance. Not so long after we voted for him, he said we have no meat but only bones left.
Dr. Bawumia recounted the difficult times under Mahama’s administration, when basic necessities became challenges:
Chalk in schools was a problem. Teacher training allowances were cancelled, nursing training allowances were cancelled. ‘Dumsor’ lasted for four years. There was no petrol, and we had to queue to buy petrol. The National Health Insurance Scheme collapsed, and the National Ambulance Service was virtually nonexistent.
Reflecting on the change Ghanaians sought in 2016, Dr. Bawumia reminded the crowd why they chose the NPP back then:
That’s why we voted him out in 2016. Today, he says he wants to return. Do you want him back?
The overwhelming “NO” from the crowd underscored the support for Dr. Bawumia’s message of progress and his vision for a better future.
