DR. BAWUMIA’S GOVERNMENT WILL INVEST HEAVILY IN AGRICULTURE – RICHARD AHIAGBAH

The Director of Communications for the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Ahiagbah, has stated that the forthcoming NPP administration, under the leadership of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, will place a strong emphasis on modernizing agriculture through the integration of advanced technologies.

Agriculture plays a crucial role in Ghana’s economy, accounting for approximately 20% of the nation’s GDP. The sector encompasses a variety of activities, including livestock, forestry, fisheries, and aquaculture, with crop farming being the predominant focus.

Despite its importance, many agricultural practices are still conducted using traditional techniques, as there is a prevailing belief that modern technological solutions are prohibitively expensive for local farmers.

Mr. Ahiagbah indicated that if Dr. Bawumia assumes the presidency, he intends to enhance the appeal of the agricultural sector by implementing innovative initiatives.

Bawumia’s administration will invest massively in irrigation expansion programmes to manage and rehabilitate existing systems and improve access to mechanised farming to boost productivity and promote commercial farming.

Dr. Bawumia, even during his tenure as Vice President, has made substantial contributions to the agricultural sector of the country, which has, over the years, played a crucial role in ensuring food security for the nation.

Dr Bawumia envisions a modernized agricultural sector to improve food security and rural livelihoods.

. In discussing various initiatives that Dr. Bawumia intends to implement to enhance Ghana’s agricultural sector, Mr. Ahiagbah highlighted a soil fertility initiative. He elaborated that, upon its execution, this initiative would.

Boost crop yields and productivity, ensuring profitability, especially for rural small-scale farmers.

Provide farmers with affordable access to modern farming equient increase their efficiency and productivity.

The Communications Director indicated that a future government led by Bawumia would place a high priority on assisting local women farmers in the context of women’s empowerment.

Emphasis will be placed on empowering small-scale and women farmers with better access to credit, insurance, and training in modern agricultural practices.

He further indicated that the government would take into account price stability to guarantee that participants in the sector do not work in vain but instead achieve reasonable profits.

The Bawumia plan will finance farmers to expand food production, processing, and storage to stabilize food prices and ensure a steady supply in the market by working with the Development Bank of Ghana and other financial platforms.
