Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) running mate, stated that Ghana’s power supply has been significantly more stable during President Akufo-Addo’s eight-year administration compared to the erratic energy situation experienced under former President John Dramani Mahama.
Affectionately known as NAPO, Dr. Opoku Prempeh made these remarks while addressing students at the Pantang Nursing and Midwifery Training College in Accra.
He encouraged the students to support the NPP in the upcoming December 7 elections by voting for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the party’s current presidential candidate, to ensure the continuation of a reliable power supply and the progress achieved under the NPP government.
He emphasized that the successes of the Akufo-Addo administration in stabilizing the energy sector demonstrate the party’s commitment to enhancing Ghana’s infrastructure and overall quality of life.
Dr. Opoku Prempeh pointed out the significant contrast between the NPP’s achievements in energy stability and the challenges faced during the previous National Democratic Congress (NDC) government led by Mahama.
He highlighted that the consistent power supply under the NPP has enabled Ghanaians to engage in educational, economic, and personal activities with fewer interruptions, benefiting both citizens and businesses.
Further criticizing the former administration, NAPO noted that despite substantial increases in electricity tariffs, the NDC under Mahama did not resolve the country’s power crisis, commonly known as ‘dumsor.’
He claimed that the NDC raised electricity tariffs by 50 percent during Mahama’s tenure without improving energy reliability, resulting in hardship for many Ghanaians.
NAPO concluded by stressing the importance of a stable power supply for the nation’s growth and development.
He urged voters to consider the NPP’s track record in the energy sector as a compelling reason to keep the party in power, emphasizing that the NPP’s leadership has brought tangible benefits to Ghanaians, which they can continue to expect under Dr. Bawumia’s guidance.
Do you want ‘dumsor’ or ‘Kanea’?
We have had ‘kanea’ in the eight years of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Dr Mahammudu Bawumia. And there was ‘dum, dum, dum, dum’ in the four years of John Dramani Mahama
Imagine, imagine, a nurse going through training for three years or four years, no light. What is that? No light. Meanwhile, every year, the electricity bill is increased by 50 per cent and that is NDC for you. They were increasing the electricity bill when the lights were off
They were not buying textbooks for schools and they increased the electricity bill to secondary school and university and when Akufo-Addo came, we cancelled the electricity bill to university and we cancelled it to secondary school
