Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and unity among Ghanaians, despite the various religious and political differences in the country, as the nation gears up for the upcoming December election.
Dr. Bawumia emphasized the significance of unity over division in his address to Christian and Muslim leaders in Akropong during the initial leg of his Eastern Regional campaign tour on Monday. He highlighted the importance of leveraging the country’s diversity to foster strength and cohesion.
We have our religious and political differences, but let us be invincible in our differences.
Dr. Bawumia further emphasized the importance for aspiring politicians to prioritize the peace and unity of the nation over their personal ambitions. This is because a divided nation cannot be effectively led by any leader.
As politicians, we will come and go, but the country Ghana will remain, so let us unite in peace and continue to respect our diversity. We are Ghanaians first, before our political parties.
Expanding on the importance of inclusivity, Dr. Bawumia emphasized, when asked about his intentions to Islamize Ghana, that his main focus is on fostering development for every individual, irrespective of their religious beliefs.
We are one people and a secular state ruled by the Constitution. I am not interested in Islamizing Ghana – it cannot even happen. My interest is to develop Ghana for all by building the best systems that will help everyone and the nation.
Dr. Bawumia articulated a strong argument for his presidential candidacy, outlining his vision for Ghana and detailing several policies he has implemented as Vice President under President Akufo-Addo’s leadership.
