MY FOCUS IS ON EMPOWERING THE YOUTH THROUGH EMPLOYMENT – DR. BAWUMIA

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the Vice President and presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has presented his plan for tackling key issues affecting the youth in the country.

During a speech to Ghanaian youths at the recently opened Youth Resource Centre in Koforidua, Eastern Region, Dr. Bawumia highlighted the pressing need to tackle various challenges that Ghanaian youth face, such as high unemployment rates and expensive data costs that limit internet access.

Dr. Bawumia, under the “Youth Connect” initiative, detailed extensive strategies to address youth unemployment, improve educational opportunities, and equip young Ghanaians for a successful future. Presenting himself as a solution provider and forward-looking leader, he emphasized his achievements as Vice President, emphasizing his dedication to creative problem-solving.

At the core of his plan is the crucial role of digitization in stimulating employment and economic development, aligning Ghana’s path with that of more advanced countries.

Drawing comparisons with tech giants like Amazon and Microsoft, he emphasized the importance of a strong private sector-driven approach to job creation. To achieve this, Bawumia highlighted the significance of tackling key issues that hinder private sector growth, including the absence of a distinct national identification system and operational address systems.

Showcasing his accomplishments in office, Bawumia presented advancements in digitization, such as the rollout of a national identification system, mobile money interoperability, and improved access to credit. He stated that these efforts have set the foundation for a digital transformation, empowering entrepreneurs to thrive and establishing pathways for sustainable job opportunities.

Additionally, he pledged to focus on formalizing the informal sector by registering informal businesses efficiently through digitization methods like USSD codes or apps and facilitating access to credit for business expansion.

We will empower the private sector to create modern, sustainable and well-paying jobs for the youth.

In the education field, Dr. Bawumia discussed the successful implementation of Free Senior High School (SHS) and vocational training programs, which have led to a significant increase in enrollment and improved access to tertiary education. Additionally, within the healthcare industry, he emphasized advancements like the electronic pharmacy platform and the utilization of drones for medical deliveries, thereby improving healthcare availability across the country.

Dr. Bawumia’s future plans involve various strategies, such as formalizing the informal sector, boosting technical and vocational education, and promoting entrepreneurship. He expressed his dedication to empowering the youth through partnerships with the private sector and targeted initiatives to lower data costs and simplify bureaucratic procedures.

Dr. Bawumia urged the youth to back his candidacy, pledging a presidency characterized by accountability, vision, and a steadfast commitment to developing a prosperous Ghana.
