MY GOVERNMENT WILL LEVERAGE THE PRIVATE SECTOR TO EXPAND AND IMPROVE EDUCATIONAL INFRASTRUCTURE – DR. BAWUMIA

Vice President and Flagbearer for the New Patriotic Party, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has revealed that his government will leverage the private sector in expanding and improving educational infrastructure.
In an engagement with the National Executive of the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS), he mentioned that his vision to partner with the private sector to aid in improving the education sector concerning infrastructures such as classrooms and dormitories will be key in transforming the country.
I used the opportunity to explain my vision of leveraging the private sector and an enhanced credit system to expand educational infrastructure and support teaching and non-teaching staff to improve the quality of education and educational outcomes.
Under my proposal (which I mentioned during my February 7th speech at UPSA) the private sector will be encouraged to build infrastructure (such as dormitories, classrooms, etc.) that the government will rent over years and own after some time. The government will also lease buses for schools.
He stressed the importance of these measures in assisting the government to save a significant amount of money for alternative projects, as well as eliminating any delays in the completion of infrastructure projects.
This new mode of financing will avoid huge initial government outlays (through the GETFUND) and delays in the completion of infrastructure projects in our senior high schools. Like me, CHASS is excited about the prospects of this policy proposal as it will reduce the educational infrastructure deficit, improve maintenance, enhance the quality of education, and at the same time improve the management of Government expenditure.
