NAPO HIGHLIGHTS MAHAMA’S HYPOCRISY FOLLOWING ENGAGEMENT WITH CLERGY

The Vice Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, has strongly criticized the NDC flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, for showing disrespect towards the clergy while simultaneously soliciting their prayers.

Dr. Opoku Prempeh’s campaign efforts in the Ashanti Region progressed in the Afigya Kwabre South constituency, where he engaged with various stakeholders, including clergy members, chiefs, and leaders of the Islamic community in Afrancho, a town within the constituency.

He asserted that the former President lacks any sense of shame, emphasizing that such a character is untrustworthy for leadership in Ghana. He also questioned the rationale behind Mahama labeling religious leaders as “hypocrites” for praying for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, while he kneels to request their prayers.

He (Mahama) said that wherever I go Pastors are praying for me and offering me their blessings, Chiefs are praying for me and Imams are praying and offering their support to us and that makes all of them hypocrites. Less than a week later he went to kneel for prayers.

Two days after saying that he was at a certain Chief’s palace for prayers. A disrespectful person or someone who has nothing good to offer does not even care if the nation runs into a ditch.

Dr. Opoku Prempeh asserted that former President Mahama is not a trustworthy leader for Ghanaians, citing his use of language that fosters violence and division rather than encouraging peace.

In contrast, several religious leaders commended the NPP’s campaign strategy of seeking divine guidance before engaging with pastors at various locations.

Rev. Matthew Ofosu from the Christian Light Church in Afrancho, representing the Clergy, remarked that this practice demonstrates the party’s commitment to involving God in all their activities.

As Pastors, we are supposed to lead with truth and honesty. If nothing at all, we all know the implementation of the Free SHS policy and how it has benefited all Ghanaians…It is not always that we see politicians meeting Pastors wherever they go; this shows that they have God in their hearts.
