NO ONE IS ENTITLED TO BE DR. BAWUMIA’S RUNNING MATE- JOHN BOADU

Former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Boadu has advised all potential candidates hoping to be chosen as Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s running mate in the upcoming December elections to stay composed.

In an interview with Emefa Apawu on The Probe on Joynews, Mr. Boadu encouraged individuals who are interested to take part in upcoming flagbearer elections once nominations become available.

He stressed that selecting a running mate is not an entitlement but a privilege, and the final decision rests with Dr. Bawumia, subject to approval from the party’s National Council.

He emphasized that the selection of the vice-presidential candidate will be made with the party’s best interests in mind, rather than individual preferences. Mr. Boadu highlighted that no one will be forced on the party, and the selection procedure will guarantee that the most suitable candidate is chosen to support Dr. Bawumia’s candidacy.

It is nobody’s right to become a running mate. If you want to become president, contest when we reopen nominations. So this noise about I should have it and he or she should not have it creates all kinds of challenges, I think that it is something that must be stopped. Because even if the flagbearer chooses one person which we have seen over the years, the National Council can decide that no, we won’t go with this person.

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has been identified as the flagbearer, with several preparatory steps being taken, including the formation of campaign teams. The focus has now shifted to the crucial task of choosing a running mate. This move has triggered vigorous lobbying within the party, especially in the Ashanti Region.

Dr Bawumia is expected to reveal his pick at the right time, stressing that there is no rush in the selection process. He has affirmed that both he and the party are not encountering any obstacles in the running mate selection process.
