Former Member of Parliament (MP) for Akwatia Constituency, Ama Sey, is actively campaigning for Dr. Bawumia, aiming to help the NPP retain power and continue the government’s positive initiatives.
She is also throwing her support behind Ernest Yaw Kumi, who defeated her in the 2020 NPP parliamentary primaries and is now the NPP’s parliamentary candidate for Akwatia in the upcoming December 7 elections.
Despite not being the NPP candidate for Akwatia, Ama Sey remains committed to the party, encouraging her supporters to follow her lead and contribute to a historic victory for both Dr. Bawumia and Ernest Kumi. She is determined to help the NPP become the first political party in Ghana to win three consecutive presidential elections.
Speaking to her constituents during a campaign event attended by Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the NPP Vice Presidential Candidate, Ama Sey urged party members to rally behind Dr. Bawumia and Ernest Kumi to secure victory in both the presidential and parliamentary races.
Challenges in Akwatia NPP
In 2020, Ama Sey narrowly lost the NPP parliamentary primaries to Ernest Kumi, which led to internal conflicts within the party in Akwatia. This division weakened the NPP’s chances, contributing to the National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) winning the seat.
Hope for Unity
However, Ama Sey’s decision to publicly support both Dr. Bawumia and Ernest Kumi is seen as a positive step towards unifying the Akwatia NPP ahead of the elections. Political analysts believe that a united NPP can reclaim the Akwatia seat and boost its chances of winning the presidential race.
Ama Sey’s Call to Action
Ama Sey praised the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia government’s achievements over the past eight years and urged party members to campaign on these successes. She encouraged them to focus on reaching out to undecided voters and even members of the opposition NDC to secure as many votes as possible.
Our government has done an excellent job in various sectors, bringing relief to many. We have a strong record to campaign on, so let’s share our achievements to win more votes,
she advised.
Ama Sey emphasized the importance of targeting floating voters and NDC members, reminding supporters that every vote counts in ensuring the NPP retains power in both the presidential and parliamentary elections.
