Dr. Bernard Okoe-Boye, the former Member of Parliament for Ledzokuku, has expressed strong confidence in reclaiming his seat in the upcoming December 7 election.
The Minister for Health and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate lost the 2020 election to Benjamin Ayiku Narteh of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), with Dr. Okoe-Boye securing 54,072 votes, while Mr. Narteh received 55,938.
However, Dr. Okoe-Boye believes that the incumbent MP has fallen short of the expectations of the constituents, who are now demanding change. In an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem morning show on Thursday, he stated that the people have tried both him and Mr. Narteh, and are now convinced that the time for change has come.
The people can testify that they have been let down and are disappointed. They have weighed the two of us and they believe Okoe Boye stands tall so the constituents are actively rooting for me. Teshie needs someone who is active and can lobby for projects so it is my prayer that God himself who makes king will make me victorious
In a related development, the Minister stated that his defeat in 2020 was not a surprise to him.
Dr Okoe Boye admitted he knew it will be very difficult to retain a seat that is traditionally the stronghold of the NDC but was grateful for the votes he garnered.
In 2016, Mahama had 45,000 votes while Akufo-Addo had 43,000. In the parliamentary election, I had 45,000 but the NDC candidate, Benita had 43,000 which means close to 3,000 voted for me.
In 2020, Mahama polled 59,000 and Akufo-Addo obtained 50,950. So for a presidential candidate to win by over 9,000 that should tell you it is an NDC constituency. The NDC man won because of his party not his work or speech but now, most of the people are calling on me.
Dr. Okoe-Boye expressed disappointment that his successor did not continue the projects he left behind, particularly highlighting the roads in the constituency. However, he remains dedicated to the area’s development, pointing to the ongoing construction of a stadium at Teshie Aboma, which is set to be completed within 90 days.
We started a harbour and it was left with a fridge but the MP has done nothing about it. It is my plan to get it running with six months when I’m elected on December 7
