Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the running mate of Dr. Bawumia, has asserted that it is a grave offense (haram) for any Muslim to cast their vote for the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Dr. Prempeh contended that the NDC harbors animosity towards Muslims. During his visit to various constituencies in the Savanna Region on November 7, Prempeh, commonly referred to as NAPO, accused the NDC of ousting Mahammed Muntaka and Haruna Iddrisu from their parliamentary leadership positions due to their Muslim faith.
He urged the Muslim communities to align themselves with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in order to improve their circumstances.
Haruna and Muntaka Mohammed, who removed them? John Mahama. They are Muslims oo, he said they are Muslims so they can’t lead NDC. The party that broke down the number one mosque in Accra, is NDC. When they broke it down, they called it what? Rawlings Park. When they broke down the mosque in Koforidua, they used it as a garbage dump. That is NDC for you. NDC, they don’t like Muslims.
During a visit to the Yagbon Wura Palace, Opoku Prempeh, along with his campaign team, sought the blessings of traditional leaders to initiate his outreach activities throughout the region.
While addressing a gathering at a rally in Larabanga, he spoke fervently, urging Muslim supporters to cast their votes in large numbers for the NPP, which he characterized as the sole political party genuinely committed to the welfare and advancement of Ghana’s Muslim community.
Opoku Prempeh further accused the NDC of intentionally excluding the renowned Larabanga Mosque from Ghana’s currency, a significant symbol of historical and religious importance to Muslims, during the tenure of former President Jerry John Rawlings.
He asserted that this action exemplifies what he perceives as the NDC’s “disdain” for Muslims, highlighting it as evidence of their disregard for Islamic heritage and the values cherished by Muslim Ghanaians.
In his speech, he also criticized former President John Mahama and the NDC for their promise to construct mortuaries in Muslim areas, which he viewed as disrespectful to Muslim traditions regarding death and burial.
Opoku Prempeh contended that this initiative demonstrates a lack of cultural awareness and indicates that the NDC fails to comprehend the needs and beliefs of Ghana’s Muslim populace.
Dr. Opoku Prempeh concluded his address by urging all Muslim voters to unite in support of the NPP, asserting that a victory for the NPP would lead to significant change and empowerment for Muslim communities throughout Ghana.
He encouraged supporters to mobilize their family, friends, and fellow community members to back the NPP, portraying the party as the best opportunity for promoting unity, respect, and progress for Muslims in Ghana.
Mr. Abu Jinapor, the Member of Parliament representing Damongo, who attended the rally, emphasized the accomplishments of the NPP within the Damongo constituency.
He reaffirmed the NPP’s dedication to enhancing infrastructure and social services in the area and conveyed his belief that the NPP would sustain its presence in the Damongo constituency while broadening its influence across the Savannah Region.
