THE NDC SIGNIFICANTLY CONTRIBUTES TO GALAMSEY – MIRACLES ABOAGYE

Dennis Miracles Aboagye, the Director of Communications for the Bawumia campaign, has alleged that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is hindering the government’s efforts to combat illegal small-scale mining, commonly referred to as galamsey.

He contends that the NDC plays a role in facilitating galamsey activities. Aboagye noted that while the government is actively working to address the issue of galamsey, officials from the NDC have been utilizing it as a political weapon against the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

In a post on Facebook, Aboagye expressed his views.

It has become clear that one of the key enablers of the Galamsey menace in Ghana is the NDC. They make the country’s efforts to end this menace a difficult one when they continue to go into Galamsey sites to encourage the people to commit these crimes.

When they continue to assure them to vote for them so they will come to the government to protect them and allow them to continue the galamsey, it makes it difficult.

The sad part of this is how they come to the public to call our government and accuse the government of inability to end this menace, and then they rush to the galamsey sites to encourage them not to stop galamsey. Truly, we have challenges and problems as a country, but it’s becoming increasingly obvious that one of Ghana’s biggest problems, is the NDC. Unfortunately, we have a democracy and can’t do anything other than manage them.

Vote against the NDC, they are key enablers of Galamsey, they are dishonest and insincere and have no clear plan to deal with this menace other than to assure the people of allowing them to even engage more in this illegality.

He further stated that his presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has presented a comprehensive strategy for addressing this issue by directing the populace’s efforts towards safe and responsible mining practices.

These remarks were made amidst the ongoing blame exchange between the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) regarding the galamsey crisis.

Minerals Development Bank to support with financing; decentralized and convenient licensing regime to ease access to concessions by the locals; provide data to make it easy to identify when the gold is, in the land; buy the Mined Gold from the people to grind the country’s reserves through the Gold Backed cedi program to boost the strength of our currency; accelerate the introduction of the community mining schemes to cover more districts; provide more safe mining equipment for the people to enable them mine without negatively affecting our river bodies and forest.

A vigorous debate took place in Parliament concerning the galamsey issue on September 3, 2024. During this extraordinary parliamentary session, both Majority and Minority Members of Parliament held each other accountable for the deteriorating condition of the nation’s water resources.

The Majority Chief Whip, Frank Annoh Dompreh, accused the previous National Democratic Government of inflicting greater environmental damage than the current New Patriotic Party administration.

If we are to look and investigate both sides of the House (NPP and NDC), I can tell you that the NDC polluted the water more than us. So, let’s get matters straight.

The Minority Leader, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, stated that despite the deployment of security personnel to combat illegal mining, the activity continues to persist under his administration.

Additionally, several Members of Parliament expressed their worries regarding the water scarcity affecting numerous regions across the nation.

The Memberof Parliament for Bodi, Samson Ahi, highlighted that areas such as Kumasi, the Western Region, and Accra are experiencing significant water shortages.

If care is not taken, we may not get water to bath before coming to Parliament tomorrow.
