GUTA WELCOMES DR. BAWUMIA’S TAX REFORM POLICIES

The Ghana Union of Traders’ Association (GUTA) has given voice to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s proposal to implement a new flat tax regime and tax amnesty, and believes it’s a positive progress that will greatly relieve businesses and ensure development.

Speaking in an interactive session with Dr. Bawumia in Accra, GUTA President Dr. Joseph Obeng Darko applauded the tax reform proposal, stressing that a flat tax system will cut down procedures and promote business extension. Speaking on behalf of GUTA, He emphasized on the potential positive impact of the tax amnesty and a flat tax rate on businesses, indicating that such policies would inspire productive operations and encourage growth and development over the next five years.

“We agree with your flat tax proposal because it will simplify things for us and help our businesses to grow,”

In an extensive engagements with GUTA members, Dr. Bawumia assured them of his commitment to strengthen a conducive business environment, highlighting his strategies for business-friendly tax reforms and mechanisms to put in place to eradicate smuggling. He reemphasized his dedication to swiftly enact these reforms, including a flat duty on containers for spare parts and aligning import duty rates with neighboring countries like Togo to deter smuggling activities.

My proposed business-friendly tax reforms, including the game-changing tax amnesty and flat tax rates for businesses and individuals, flat-rate duties on containers, as well as benchmarking our import duties with Togo, will ensure uniformity and also eliminate smuggling.
