Some trade groups from the Ashanti, Bono, and Ahafo Regions have charged the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to consider choosing a woman as a running mate ahead of the December 7th elections.
Speaking to the media at the Racecourse Market, they emphasized the importance of having women in leadership roles, offering inspiration to young women, and advocating for gender inclusivity in politics. They encouraged Dr. Bawumia to choose a female candidate from the Ashanti Region as his running mate for the 2024 general elections.
They lamented about the underestimation of women in the country’s governance structure and political landscape and such having a female as a running mate will see to a significant women representation in Ghana’s governance structures and further ensure more women’s participation in the country’s political landscape.
Emphasizing the need for gender equality in political leadership, the women’s trade groups conveyed their viewpoint that the participation of women in significant roles plays a vital role in empowering women and contributing to the development of the nation.
We are urging Dr. Bawumia to select a female running mate from the Ashanti Region. A female vice president will fight for the welfare of Ghanaian women and ensure that our interests are represented in all spheres of life.
