GHANA AT CROSSROADS: DR. BAWUMIA THE JOSHUA OF OUR TIME

President Akufo-Addo, who appears to have faced similar challenges as the biblical Moses, assumed leadership of a struggling Ghanaian economy in 2017. With great expectations, he swiftly implemented innovative and transformative ideas to propel Ghana Beyond Aid. However, his efforts were hindered by the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, followed by the Russian-Ukraine War, both of which had devastating effects on the lives and livelihoods of Ghanaians.

As the nation prepares for the 2024 elections, we find ourselves at a crucial juncture in our history. Ghana faces numerous challenges, including the enduring economic repercussions of the pandemic and the war, escalating living costs, widening fiscal deficits, and mounting debt burdens. It is worth noting that no previous government in Ghana has ever faced the impact of a pandemic. President Akufo-Addo, like Moses, has made commendable efforts to navigate these turbulent waters without capsizing the ship. His exemplary leadership during the Covid-19 crisis garnered global recognition.

However, like Moses, there comes a time when he must pass the baton to the Joshua of our era, who will contribute to building the Ghana we aspire to become. Moses was called upon to lead the Israelites out of bondage, and he fulfilled this role with excellence until he encountered challenges in the wilderness. At that point, he handed over the baton to his deputy, Joshua. Ghana requires resolute, principled, and servant leadership to guide it through these tumultuous times and towards a prosperous future.

In these trying circumstances, one individual stands as a beacon of hope: Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the Vice President and presidential candidate of the NPP. Similar to the biblical Joshua, who led the Israelites into the Promised Land after their arduous journey through the wilderness, Dr. Bawumia possesses the vision, integrity, work ethic, and connections necessary to be Ghana’s modern-day deliverer. Moving forward, Ghana undeniably needs a seasoned leader with bold solutions to effectively address these challenges.

In the current era, Dr. Bawumia represents a leader with impeccable character and proven capabilities to guide Ghana towards a future of prosperity and growth. His visionary speech during the NPP’s flagbearer election highlighted his trustworthiness and ability to generate innovative ideas for Ghana’s transformation.

Dr. Bawumia has redefined the role of the Vice President in Ghana, earning admiration from many citizens. His background as an economist and former Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana, coupled with his active role in implementing crucial policies such as the digital address system and national ID card initiatives, has positioned Ghana as a digitally advanced and competitive economy. Together with President Akufo-Addo, Dr. Bawumia has prioritized the development of human capital through initiatives like the Free SHS program, increased capitation grants, and expanded school feeding programs, recognizing education as a key equalizer.

Dr. Bawumia’s commitment to preparing Ghana for the Fourth Industrial Revolution is evident, as is his dedication to safeguarding and enhancing the Free SHS program. His humility shines through as he refrains from comparing his achievements to those of past Vice Presidents, leaving the judgment to the people. Dr. Bawumia’s dedication to serving Ghana is a testament to his belief that there is no greater calling than the opportunity to contribute to the nation’s progress.

Bawumia’s unwavering commitment to serving Ghana and its people. He has consistently upheld the values of righteousness, honesty, and integrity, as stated in Proverbs 14:34. Dr. Bawumia understands that true leadership means putting the needs of the people first, as emphasized in 1 Peter 5:2-3. He has demonstrated this through his dedication to protecting the vulnerable and implementing social interventions such as LEAP, NHIS, and School feeding. Furthermore, Dr. Bawumia recognizes the importance of responsible utilization of Ghana’s natural resources.

He has outlined a comprehensive Post-COVID-19 Programme for Economic Growth (PC-PEG) that focuses on restoring fiscal sustainability, controlling inflation and currency instability, diversifying the economy for growth and job creation, and safeguarding the vulnerable. Ghana’s progress in exceeding targets under the IMF program is a testament to Dr. Bawumia’s effective leadership. In conclusion, Dr. Bawumia’s commitment to serving Ghana and uplifting its citizens is evident in his actions and principles. He is dedicated to good stewardship of all resources and aims to ensure a prosperous future for all Ghanaians.

Dr. Bawumia’s vision for Ghana is centered on transformative ideas, even amidst challenges. He emphasizes the importance of aligning Ghana’s mission with its constitutional ethos, aiming to build a nation that is optimistic, self-confident, and prosperous. His inclusive approach, as highlighted in his words, focuses on creating a society of possibilities, enterprise, compassion, and shared prosperity for all Ghanaians.

This vision echoes the biblical exhortation of unity and possibility. As Ghanaians prepare for the 2024 elections, the choice is clear – to embrace innovative, principled leadership or to remain mired in corruption and missed opportunities of the past. A vote for Dr. Bawumia signifies a commitment to a promising future, characterized by efficiency, accountability, and respect for all. It is an opportunity to steer Ghana towards progress and away from stagnation. Remember, democracy is not just about voting, but also about ensuring that every vote counts. Let us choose a leader who has a proven track record and is dedicated to building a better Ghana for all.

The concept of elections, which involves the transfer of power to a one-term government, should be critically evaluated due to the potential recklessness, sluggishness, and incompetence that may arise, as they will not seek re-election from the public. Life is a continuous cycle of change, and time serves as a reminder that every sunset presents an opportunity to start anew and embrace fresh ideas that can shape and transform our lives.

By voting for Dr. Bawumia, we are essentially fulfilling the commandment found in Joshua 1:9, which encourages us to be strong and courageous, knowing that the Lord is always with us wherever we go. In these challenging times, Dr. Bawumia embodies the qualities of a brave and principled servant leader who can guide our nation toward a brighter future. Just as Moses was unable to lead the Israelites into the Promised Land, President Akufo-Addo’s tenure has been marked by unforeseen challenges and crises that were beyond his control.

However, we hold onto the hope that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, our contemporary Joshua, will safely and courageously lead us towards a “Promised Land” characterized by sustainable development and prosperity for all. Opportunities present themselves to those who dare to seek them out, as life is undoubtedly transitioning from the old to the bold. Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia embodies the qualities of a visionary reformer with unwavering integrity, who will restore hope, create opportunities, and foster unity in Ghana through ethical governance and inclusive policies.

On the day of the 2024 elections, Ghanaians should respond to the rallying cry of “The Time for Bawumia is Now!” and empower him to be the Joshua of our time, as he brings forth promised bold solutions that can make a positive difference.
