2,456 PHARMACIES ON THE NATIONAL E-PHARMACY PLATFORMS

A significant achievement has been reached by onboarding 2,456 pharmacies onto the National E-Pharmacy Platform in Ghana.

This platform, also called e-pharmacy, offers a convenient way for registered pharmacies in Ghana to provide prescribed medicines to the public. Individuals can register on the platform using their Ghana card and easily upload their prescriptions to purchase drugs, which will then be delivered to their specified locations.

The creation of this e-pharmacy platform is part of the government’s effort to digitalize public service in collaboration with the Office of the Vice President, the Pharmacy Council, and the Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana. In response to Vice President Dr. Bawumia’s challenge in 2019. the Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana collaborated with relevant stakeholders to launch the national-scale e-pharmacy platform.

After undergoing a six-month pilot phase, the platform was officially launched in January of this year by Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. Users can easily register on the platform using a Ghana Card, and upload their prescription via mobile phone or USSD code.

The platform also allows users to locate nearby pharmacies, check the availability of specific medicines, compare prices across different pharmacies, and make payments through mobile phones. The integration of the Ghana Nationa E-pharmacy Platform with the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) platform ensures the authenticity of the medicines being purchased.
