Vice President and flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has pledged to transform small-scale miners in the nation into “millionaires”.
Dr. Bawumia assured the audience that the upcoming government policy would enhance their quality of life and increase their financial resources. He delivered this commitment during a speech to small-scale miners and youth organizations in Tarkwa, concluding his campaign tour of the Western Region. He also mentioned that the mining permits would be granted to small-scale miners.
We will allocate the mining concessions to the small scale miners. My primary focus is to make many small scale miners millionaire and multi-millionaires. I want to support our small scale miners.
He further guaranteed his commitment to assisting small-scale miners by providing them with legal mining equipment, instead of pursuing them and confiscating their equipment.
We will formalize the small scale mining regime and give them license. Everybody will register with the Small Scale Miners Association with their Ghana card and we will deepen the representation of the Minerals Commission and the EPA, make sure that the districts that they are not there, we will open them.
Dr. Bawumia mentioned that each district will establish a mining committee responsible for issuing temporary licenses in collaboration with local chiefs.
