DR. BAWUMIA HOLDS DISCUSSIONS WITH EU AMBASSADORS

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the Vice-President and presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the upcoming 2024 general election, has organized a gathering with European Union (EU) ambassadors and private sector leaders at the EU Ambassador’s residence in Accra.

The purpose of this meeting is to outline his plans for Ghana’s future progress and reforms if he is elected as the President of Ghana. Dr Bawumia emphasized the significance of updating the tax system, using Estonia’s blockchain model as a source of motivation.

He underscored the necessity for improved tax tracking and data verification to broaden the number of taxpayers. Additionally, Dr Bawumia talked about proposals to invest in public transportation and electric vehicles, such as the upcoming testing of 200 Honda electric buses in the coming months.

The Vice-President highlighted the crucial role of technology in restructuring industries like agriculture and tackling security issues at a regional level. He stressed Ghana’s dedication to upholding inclusive democracy during times of instability in the sub-region, promoting collaboration with neighboring nations and Europe.

Dr. Bawumia has indicated his willingness to review policies concerning local content and the GIPC Act in order to create a more favorable investment climate. He emphasized the significance of consistency in business regulations and suggested improvements in land title systems and tax exemptions for investors.

Furthermore, the Vice-President recommended streamlining the tax system through a flat tax rate and implementing digital processes to combat corruption. He also underscored the importance of competition in the energy sector to enhance services and reduce monopolies, such as eliminating VAT on solar energy.

In terms of education’s role in national development, Dr. Bawumia reaffirmed his endorsement of free senior high school and highlighted the advancements made in STEM and other educational initiatives to broaden students’ horizons. He outlined his comprehensive strategy aimed at promoting economic growth, attracting investments, improving governance, and addressing key challenges in Ghana.
