Bryan Acheampong, the Minister of Food and Agriculture, is being considered as a potential running mate for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), in the upcoming general elections.
According to political observer and analyst Kojo Danso, his assessment of the current NPP situation indicates that Bryan Acheampong is the most suitable candidate for the running mate position.
Danso further elaborated that the ongoing rivalry between Energy Minister Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh and Education Minister Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum for the running mate slot is causing complications for the NPP in their stronghold, the Ashanti Region.
To alleviate the tension within the NPP in the Region, it has been stated that Bryan Acheampong, the legislator for Abetifi in the Eastern Region, is likely to be chosen as the running mate.
Danso stated in a phone call with 3news.com that due to the acrimony between Napo and Adutwum supporters in the Ashanti Region, the party is seeking a neutral individual to complement the ticket.
Dr Bawumia needs a youthful person with charisma, credibility, and trust and resourceful to partner with, these attributes are visibly seen in Bryan Acheampong, he is also one that the NDC fears because of his operational strategies as a top-notch security person.
Most of the Majority MPs support him, they like him because he supported most of them during their primaries. It looks as if all the kingmakers in the party are behind him.
Above all, he can also trace his roots to the Ashanti Region, specifically Offinso Kayera. That was why recently the youth of Offinso Kayera called on him to serve ‘home’ as their chief following the death of Karikari Wiafi-Ababio.
