Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, a prominent member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has highlighted the remarkable progress of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign, emphasizing its growing momentum at a crucial time.
Otchere-Darko believes that this surge in support is energizing the NPP base and addressing any apathy within the party.
“The positive aspect of this development is that Bawumia’s candidacy is gaining traction, which is crucial in tackling any existing apathy,”
he stated.
He underscored that for an incumbent, overcoming voter apathy is a significant challenge, but Dr. Bawumia’s increasing popularity is re-energizing his supporters.
“I think that the basic antidote to apathy is your base believing that you can win. If they begin to believe that it is possible, then they will also be re-energized,”
Otchere-Darko explained.
The recent survey conducted by Professor Smart Sarpong, the Director of Research and Innovation at Kumasi Technical University, shows Dr. Bawumia as the leading presidential candidate with 38.9% preference for the 2024 general elections. John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), follows closely with 36.1%.
This survey indicates Dr. Bawumia’s lead in several key regions, including Ahafo, Ashanti, Bono, Central, Eastern, North East, Western, and Western North, showcasing his widespread support across the nation.
Gabby Otchere-Darko’s insights underscore the growing confidence within the NPP that Dr. Bawumia’s dynamic campaign is not only gaining momentum but also effectively mobilizing the party’s base for a strong showing in the upcoming elections.
