DR. BAWUMIA COMPELLED MAHAMA TO EMBARK ON CAMPAIGN TRIAL

The street campaign of Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the 2024 Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), is gaining momentum ahead of the December polls.

This has prompted the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, to also begin campaigning.

There have been speculations that Mahama has been absent from the political scene due to health issues. However, a recent survey conducted by Professor Smart Sarpong, the Director of Research and Innovation at Kumasi Technical University, indicates that Dr. Bawumia is currently leading the presidential race with 38.9% preference for the upcoming general elections.

Mahama is slightly behind with 36.1%. The survey also reveals that Bawumia has a significant lead in various regions, including Ahafo, Ashanti, Bono, Central, Eastern, North East, Western, and Western North.

Dr. Bawumia has adopted a new campaign strategy by directly engaging with the electorate in their communities. He has already toured fifteen regions, where he has interacted with the Clergy, Muslim leaders, students’ unions, and market women, among other groups.

In an attempt to gain public attention, former President John Mahama has also started a similar campaign. A video circulating online shows him interacting with women at the Canoe Wharf area of the Tema Fishing Harbour.

He can be seen shaking hands, posing for photos, and engaging with various individuals involved in the fishing industry, including traders, fishmongers, fishermen, and equipment owners.

Former President John Mahama, in his speech, provided reassurance that his government would prioritize the revival of the fishing industry.

He emphasized the importance of delivering essential resources like premix fuel and outboard motors to the landing beach committees and chief fishermen. Additionally, he made a commitment to exempt artisanal fishing from the closed-season policy.
