The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has urged Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Vice President and Presidential aspirant of the NPP in the December 2024 elections, to take decisive actions in revising the chieftaincy Act if he assumes the presidency.
According to the Asantehene, this revision would facilitate better collaboration between chiefs and the government, allowing them to actively contribute to the country’s development process.
It would also empower chiefs, who are the custodians of the land, to effectively partner with the government in combating illegal mining activities that are causing harm to the country’s natural resources.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu conveyed this message during the Vice President’s visit to the Manhyia palace in Kumasi as part of his campaign tour of the Ashanti region.
Additionally, the Asantehene emphasized the need for the Flagbearer to prioritize enhancing the allowances provided to traditional councils, as previously promised.
He advised Dr. Bawumia to continue ongoing development projects nationwide and initiate new ones that would contribute to the country’s growth and sustainable development.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu also encouraged the Vice President to articulate his vision effectively to garner support from the people and secure votes in the upcoming elections.
Before this, Dr. Bawumia had met with the Chief of Kenyase in the Kwabre East Municipality, where he assured the completion of ongoing road projects in the area.
He inspected the Agenda 111 Project and the Mampongteng town roads, promising to improve their condition. Furthermore, Dr. Bawumia visited the Opoku Ware Senior High School, distributing over 4000 tablets to students as part of the government’s smart school initiative aimed at enhancing educational delivery in the digital era.
