Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the Energy Minister, has received the endorsement of the Deputy Minister for Local Government for the position of running mate to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
Despite the New Patriotic Party’s rules stating that the running mate should be chosen a year before the elections, the vice president and flagbearer are yet to make a decision.
In a recent interview with Johnnie Hughes on 3FM’s Sunrise, Ekow Vincent Assafuah highlighted Dr. Prempeh’s qualities and abilities, stating that he is well-suited for the role.
I have no doubts in my mind that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia will be better off if he chooses Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh as his running mate. He [Opoku Prempeh] is someone who has demonstrated to the Ghanaian people that when it comes to the work, he can deliver.
Dr. Mathhew Opoku Prempeh has emerged as the frontrunner to be named as Dr. Bawumia’s running mate. However, there are concerns regarding certain statements made by the Energy Minister, which have not been well received by the people of Ghana.
One particular issue is his response to the demand for a timetable for dumsor. You may recall that when asked about a timetable for dumsor by a journalist, the Energy Minister responded by telling Ghanaians to create their timetable.
In response to this, the Old Tafo Legislator stated that it is his personal opinion and it does not address the pressing issue of providing for the basic needs of Ghanaians.
That’s his personal comment and that does not put food on our table.
In his perspective, Dr. Opoku Prempeh’s composure, intelligence, and brilliance are the key factors for holding the position.
I put all my bet on him.
Dr. Bawumia is projected to reveal his running mate before the end of June as the December elections near.
