Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia asserts that, given the current state of the country, Ghana requires only a visionary leader to progress.
He emphasized that this will determine the direction Ghanaians envision for the country’s future and strategize on achieving it.
These remarks were made during his address at the second Biennial Joint Session of the East, West, and Mid-Ghana Conference of the African Methodist Episcopal (A.M.E) Zion in Gomoa Fetteh, Central Region, yesterday.
Dr. Bawumia, also the flagbearer of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), highlighted the importance of considering the consequences of current actions and inactions on the nation’s future to secure it effectively.
He stressed the need for dedicated individuals committed to realizing their aspirations for the future.
The five-day conference themed “The freedom church; Securing our future” is attended by delegates from Ghana, Angola, Togo, Cote d’Ivoire, Liberia, and the United States of America (USA).
Dr. Bawumia noted the upcoming new quadrennium for the Western West Africa Episcopal District of the church and the impending national elections as pivotal moments for the nation’s governance.
He underscored that the theme underscores the significance of safeguarding a future deemed valuable and worthy of preservation.
Acknowledging the economic challenges faced by Ghana recently, Dr. Bawumia remained resolute that faith in a prosperous future must prevail.
He interpreted the conference theme as a call to all Ghanaians to believe in the future and take proactive measures now to safeguard and fortify the country at all costs.
During the event, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo donated GH¢50,000, while Dr. Bawumia pledged support for the church with an ambulance.
Presiding Bishop of the African Methodist Episcopal (A.M.E) Zion Church, Rt. Rev. Dr. Hilliard Dela Dogbe, expressed concerns about the economic challenges affecting families and individuals in Ghana today.
He prayed for a better Ghana with improved living standards and opportunities for all.
Regarding the December elections, he advocated for a respectful approach among political participants, cautioning against divisive tactics and negative campaigns.
Additionally, he announced plans for the construction of an A.M.E Zion Church retreat and conference center, scheduled to commence in October this year.
