GHANA’S HOPE RENEWED WITH OPOKU PREMPEH’S APPOINTMENT – BUSIA INSTITUTE

The Busia Institute for Rural and Democratic Development (BIRDD) has announced that the appointment and subsequent validation of Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh as the running mate to the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP’s) flag bearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, serves as evidence of his unwavering commitment to the vision and legacy of the esteemed forebears of the UP tradition and Ghana.

Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh’s nomination as the vice-presidential candidate for the NPP has been seen as a strategic move that aligns with the party’s commitment to promoting rural and democratic development in Ghana. His track record as a dedicated public servant and his deep understanding of the issues facing rural communities make him a strong advocate for inclusive growth and sustainable development

As a dedicated public servant, Dr Opoku Prempeh, affectionately called Napo has consistently demonstrated exceptional leadership qualities, a strong work ethic and an unrelenting passion for the betterment of Ghana.

His notable traits include his intellectual prowess, strategic thinking and ability to build consensus. These attributes, coupled with his experience in various sectors, make him an excellent choice for the position of Vice-President.

IDEALS
The BIRDD, led by Executive Director Anane Agyei, expressed optimism that Dr. Prempeh’s new position would allow him to further advance the principles and ideals of pioneers like Dr. K. A. Busia, particularly in the areas of economic development, education, social justice, and rural development.

The institute, which focuses on rural development, democracy, and youth empowerment, and is based on the principles of Dr. Kofi Abrefa Busia, Ghana’s Prime Minister during the Second Republic, highlighted Dr. Opoku Prempeh’s contributions to the Akufo-Addo administration, emphasizing his role in shaping policies and programs aimed at promoting economic growth, improving healthcare, and enhancing the overall quality of life for Ghanaians.

It also recognized Dr. Opoku Prempeh’s commitment to public service and his ability to effectively collaborate with various stakeholders, earning him recognition and respect nationwide.

During his tenure as Minister of Education, Dr Opoku Prempeh spearheaded the implementation of the flagship Free Senior High School (SHS) programme, which has greatly impacted the country. Under his leadership, the programme has seen a significant increase in enrollment, with over 1.3 million students currently benefiting from the initiative.

The institute emphasized that the Bawumia-Prempeh ticket has made a significant impact on education accessibility and financial relief for parents and guardians.

As a result, the institute encouraged the public to acknowledge the outstanding attributes of the Bawumia-Prempeh ticket and to cast their votes for the NPP in the upcoming December 2024 presidential election.

Additionally, the institute expressed confidence in Dr. Prempeh’s capabilities, knowledge, and dedication to the nation’s advancement, believing that their leadership will bring about a new era of growth, prosperity, and harmony for the country.
