Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has appealed for the support of the people of Nanung in the forthcoming December elections. During his campaign tour in Bimbilla, located in the Northern region, he emphasized the potential for a longer-term presidency compared to his opponent, former President John Mahama.
Dr. Bawumia highlighted that he could serve two terms, totaling eight years, whereas Mahama, having already served as president, is limited to a single four-year term. He urged the electorate to consider the benefits of a longer administration for sustained development.
“I am the Vice President; I’ve not been president yet and I want to plead with you, I am going to the contest with my senior John Mahama, he has been president before, and when he comes, he has only four years. When I come, I have eight years, so, if you look at the presidency, do we want four years or eight? After four years, he won’t come but I will come for renewal, so please give me the chance, so that I can be accountable,” Dr. Bawumia stated.
He assured the people that they have the power to reject him if he fails to deliver in his first term, reinforcing his commitment to accountability and performance.
Nyelinbolgu Naa Dassana Andani Yakubu, the regent of Bimbilla, expressed full support for Dr. Bawumia, recognizing the positive impact of the NPP government in the constituency. The regent voiced optimism that a Bawumia presidency would bring further development to Nanung, including the establishment of a health institution, upgrading the Bimbilla municipal hospital, providing a university, and improving the water supply.
As the campaign heats up, Dr. Bawumia’s appeal for an extended mandate is a strategic move to highlight the advantages of a stable and continuous leadership for the region’s development.
