I SUPPORT DR, BAWUMIA’S PLAN TO UNIFY CHIEFTANCY AND GOVERNANCE – NENE SAKITE II

The King of Manya Krobo, Nene Sakite II, has endorsed the ambitious policy proposal put forth by the Vice-President and presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, to incorporate traditional leadership into modern governance as a commendable move.

He expressed his hope that the NPP would emerge victorious in the upcoming elections to implement this policy.

The stability of our nation hinges on the stability of the chieftaincy institution.

These remarks were made during his reception of Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the running mate of Dr. Bawumia, at his palace in Manya Krobo on Monday, July 15, 2024.

Expanding on his thoughts, the King highlighted that traditional rulers have a closer connection to the people compared to politicians. Therefore, he viewed Dr. Bawumia’s courageous step to merge governance with chieftaincy as fitting and encouraged everyone to support it.

The King elaborated that the integration of governance with chieftaincy entails aligning traditional leadership frameworks with contemporary governance practices to promote community development and efficient administration

This is intended to merge the authority and influence of traditional chiefs with democratic principles, the rule of law, and citizen participation in decision-making.

He also emphasized that the incorporation should aim to utilize traditional knowledge and cultural values to promote sustainable development and inclusive governance.

He expressed optimism that the selection of Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, a royal, as running mate to Dr. Bawumia would be instrumental in realizing the aspirations of the flagbearer.

Nene Sakite II advised Dr. Prempeh and the party supporters to not become complacent, but to exert enough effort to persuade Ghanaians about their accomplishments and their plans for the next administration.

If you work harder, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh will be the next Vice-President of Ghana.

Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh emphasized that Dr. Bawumia is known for keeping his promises, and he highlighted the importance of the chieftaincy institution in contributing to his administration.

As politicians, we must understand that for the unity, stability, progress, and development of this country, government, religious leaders, and the chieftaincy institution must be coordinated effectively, build consensus to bring proper development to the people of Ghana. I say this because we work closely with the people; hence, the need for proper synergies to be built to facilitate their wellbeing.

Dr. Prempeh affirmed his stance, emphasizing that chiefs have historically served as leaders of society, whereas religious leaders have played a crucial role in the spiritual well-being of the country.

as politicians, we must not attempt to raise ourselves higher and laud it over the people; instead, we must all see ourselves playing different, equally important roles to make society better.
