The chiefs and people of Wechiau in the Wa West District of the Upper West Region have pledged their support to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the upcoming elections, citing the party’s consistent commitment to development in the area. The endorsement comes as a significant boost for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP’s presidential candidate, as he continues his campaign tour.
Naa Imoru Nandon Gomah II, the Paramount Chief of Wechiau, expressed his community’s appreciation for Dr. Bawumia’s respectful gesture of formally informing them of his presidential ambitions.
“This is further evidence of his respect for traditional institutions and, therefore, we will reward him in due course,”
Naa Gomah stated during Dr. Bawumia’s visit to his palace on Monday, July 22.
Dr. Bawumia’s visit was part of his constituency-focused nationwide campaign, where he engaged with traditional authorities, religious and opinion leaders, the youth, and other key stakeholders. Naa Gomah highlighted the numerous benefits the people of Wechiau have received under the NPP administration, emphasizing the party’s reliability in fulfilling electoral promises.
“Your Excellency, the NPP Government since 2004 has given us a lot of developmental projects. The Wa West District was created by the NPP Government in 2004. The NPP Government has given us the biggest project, that is the Agenda 111 Hospital Project,”
he noted.
Naa Gomah also mentioned the provision of dams and dug-outs under the One-Village, One-Dam program, road infrastructure improvements, and benefits from the Free Senior High School and School Feeding programs.
The Paramount Chief extended his blessings to Dr. Bawumia, assuring him of the community’s support. “As chiefs, we can assure you of our support to enable you to continue the good works of the New Patriotic Party Government after the December 7 Election. We wish you God’s blessings and protection.”
In response, Dr. Bawumia expressed his gratitude for the support from the chiefs and the people of Wechiau. He urged them to continue backing him and the NPP to build on the progress made. “My vision for Ghana’s future will see us, among others, train our children for the future and equip our youth with the requisite skills to create jobs and compete favorably with their contemporaries across the world,” he assured.
The commitment of the Wechiau community to the NPP highlights the party’s impact on local development and strengthens Dr. Bawumia’s campaign as he aims to lead the nation.
