A political aide to Kofi Tonto, the 2024 presidential candidate of the NPP, has stated that the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) was compelled to relocate its campaign launch from the Western Region to Tamale due to the significant influence of Bawumia’s campaign in the Northern Region.
On Saturday, July 27, the NDC officially commenced its campaign for the upcoming general election in Tamale, located in the Northern Region.
However, during an interview with Kwaku Nhyira-Addo on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Monday, July 29, Tonto alleged that the NDC had transported individuals to its campaign event over the weekend.
Tonto further asserted that the opposition party had originally intended to initiate its national campaign in the Central Region.
A bird tells me that the NDC initially planned to launch their campaign in the Central Region, and then they quickly had to re-strategies because they realized the impact the NPP presidential candidate, Mahamudu Bawumia is making in the Northern Region.
Look at the crowds they bused to Tamale. I say bused confidently because it was all over social media with their communicators and leaders actually saying we have a bus here people who want to go should call this number so you can also get to Tamale.
And if you look at the crowd they got and you juxtapose it with the crowd we got in Yaga-Kubori alone… But for us it was not even about the crowd, it’s about the inroad we are making.
