DRIP IS SET TO CREATE JOB OPPORTUNITIES FOR 5,000 CONSTRUCTION WORKERS – AKUFO-ADDO

Around five thousand construction workers from Ghana are anticipated to secure employment opportunities through the government’s fast-tracked road construction project known as the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP).

The project, primarily financed by the District Assembly Common Fund, aims to repair and enhance deteriorating roads nationwide. President Akufo-Addo emphasized his government’s dedication to enhancing road infrastructure in Ghana during the launch event, where he addressed esteemed guests.

I stand before you today with considerable pride to launch the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP) and commission essential equipment which use will be crucial in transforming road networks across the country.

This event marks an important milestone in our pursuit of infrastructural development and I am honored to commemorate this momentous occasion with you all. This ceremony is proof of the determination of the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia government to decentralize development and ensure that every corner of Ghana benefits from the progress and prosperity we strive to achieve.

The recently initiated District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP) seeks to enhance road infrastructure throughout the country by providing earth-moving machinery to Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs).

Financed by the District Assembly Common Fund and aided by various donor partners, the DRIP will equip MMDAs with vital machinery, including Caterpillars, Bulldozers, and Concrete Mixers.

These assets are designed to strengthen road construction initiatives and tackle persistent infrastructure issues across Ghana.

The program is designed to accelerate the progress of road construction projects and improve agricultural practices in rural areas by improving market access and lowering transportation expenses.

Enhanced rural road systems are projected to decrease agricultural losses after harvest, which will help stabilize the economy and ensure food security.

In a press conference, Martin Adjei Mensah Korsah, the Minister for Local Government, Decentralization, and Rural Development, highlighted the significant changes brought about by DRIP.

The District Road Improvement Programme is a crucial initiative aimed at enhancing road infrastructure in rural areas,” Minister Korsah stated.

The programme will foster sustainable development, improve connectivity, and elevate living standards by equipping local authorities with necessary tools and resources.
