OUR OBJECTIVE IN THE ASHANTI REGION IS TO ACHIEVE A TARGET OF 85% – CHAIRMAN WONTUMI

The Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ashanti Region, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, commonly referred to as Chairman Wontumi, has reaffirmed the party’s commitment to achieving an 85% share of the total votes in the Ashanti region following the elections in December.

Chairman Wontumi asserts that the circumstances surrounding the 2008 elections will not be replicated in 2024, as the two electoral contexts are distinct.

In 2008 when the NPP had finished its eight years term and looking to break the 8, there were a lot of despondency but, now the narrative is different because the government is performing and meeting the expectations of the people, this gives us confidence that breaking the 8 is possible this time around.

Wontumi firmly believes that the opposition National Democratic Congress is not a viable choice for the residents of the Ashanti Region. According to him, Mahama’s administration brought about challenges for the region, particularly with the introduction of Capitation under the NHIS. The neglect of the Ashanti people during his time in office is still fresh in their memories.

Mr. Boasiako is of the opinion that the ruling party will have a significant edge over the opposition due to the extensive road projects currently underway in the Ashanti region.

look at the massive road projects this government is embarking.

The NPP has not reached the 77% threshold in its stronghold since its establishment in 1992. The party achieved its highest results in 2004 and 2016, with 76% in each of those elections.

In 2004, the party was led by Candidate John Agyekum Kufour, while the current president Nana Akufo-Addo emerged victorious in the 2016 elections.
