Otubuor Gyan Kwasi II, Chief of Aburi and Adontenhene of the Okuapeman Traditional Council in the Eastern Region, has urged Ghanaians to vote overwhelmingly for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the 2024 presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), on December 7. The Aburihene praised Dr. Bawumia for his significant contributions to the country through his digitalization initiatives and expressed their support with the slogan, “It’s Possible.”
The Chief of Aburi emphasized the unity and collective endorsement among traditional leaders for Dr. Bawumia’s leadership, highlighting his dedication to national progress. He also noted the positive impact of the NPP government’s development projects on Aburi and Okuapeman, encouraging locals to vote for the NPP candidate.
This endorsement came during Dr. Bawumia’s courtesy visit to the Chief in Aburi on Saturday, part of his regional campaign tour. The Aburihene praised Dr. Bawumia’s digitalization efforts and expressed his belief in the need for continuity in leadership. He vowed to be among the first to congratulate Dr. Bawumia at the Jubilee House on January 7, 2025, presenting him with a beautiful Kente cloth and offering libations for his campaign success.
In response, Dr. Bawumia thanked the Aburihene for his endorsement and expressed his heartfelt gratitude. He assured the chiefs that if elected, his government would amend the Chieftaincy Act to restore some powers to traditional leaders, aiming to enhance their role and reduce local disputes in the courts. Additionally, he promised to establish a fund for the development of the chieftaincy institution.
Dr. Bawumia also committed to prioritizing agriculture by partnering with countries like Brazil and China to improve crop productivity. He proposed setting up district agricultural mechanization centers to provide affordable equipment for farmers and expressed a desire to learn from nations with advanced agricultural practices.
Finally, Dr. Bawumia criticized his main rival, John Dramani Mahama, labeling him as lacking the ideas necessary for effective governance. He urged voters to support him if they were pleased with the current NPP government’s performance, so he could continue working to transform the country.
