The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has articulated its strategies to secure 85 percent of the votes in the Ashanti Region during the upcoming 2024 presidential election.
The leadership of the party has emphasized that door-to-door campaigning will be conducted with intensity and thoroughness. During the launch of the campaign for the region, Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi-Boasiako stated that the NPP is committed to winning all parliamentary seats within the area.
Our target to win all forty-seven constituencies is still in motion. We will have to deliver it. The running mate has also given us an 85 percent target, which should be done as well.
While the Ashanti Region continues to serve as a bastion for the NPP, the highest percentage of votes it has secured in a general election stands at 76.2 percent.
The party initially aimed for a target exceeding seventy percent in the upcoming elections; however, during his introduction in Kumasi, running mate Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh revised this goal to eighty-five percent.
Although many consider this target to be unrealistic, Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako has embraced the challenge. Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, the Chairman of the NPP Manifesto Committee, stated that achieving this goal is significantly reliant on the party’s organizational units.
He emphasized that with a robust structure in place, party members can effectively implement a door-to-door campaign to communicate the NPP’s message. Mr. Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu noted that the polling station structure had proven ineffective following the last election.
It is good to aspire higher, if we look at our performance in the past four elections, our best has been around 76 per cent. We will have to ignite the organizational units of the party. That is the only means to reach the target. Our polling station agents have not been to the homes of people after the previous elections.
Concurrently, the Chief of Staff, Akosua Fremah Opare, has underscored the importance of the women’s wing in achieving the established objectives.
