Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has firmly pledged to eliminate the controversial E-Levy and betting tax if he wins the 2024 presidential election.
At the NPP’s manifesto launch in Takoradi on Sunday, August 18, Bawumia presented his vision for extensive tax reforms designed to ease the financial burden on Ghanaians. This includes a tax amnesty for unpaid taxes from previous years and waivers on interest and penalties for unfiled taxes.
He also outlined plans to establish Ghana as a global digital leader, with a focus on policies, competitive incentives, and strategic investments to transform the nation into a premier digital economy.
We will accelerate Ghana’s evolution into Africa’s digital hub through targeted policies, incentives, and investments. This includes supporting local talent and tech start-ups while eliminating the E-Levy.
We will introduce broad tax reforms, including a one-time tax amnesty for all Ghanaians and businesses, clearing past tax obligations to give everyone a fresh start.
We’ll streamline the Value Added Tax system by consolidating all levies into a single item, integrating it into input and output VAT to eliminate the current cascading effect.
We’ll also lower withholding Tax for small-scale gold exports to 1% to combat smuggling and remove the Betting Tax,
Business-Friendly Tax Reforms.
Bawumia also vowed to create a more business-friendly environment if elected in 2024. He emphasized his dedication to enhancing and expanding the private sector, outlining a detailed plan for a revamped tax system aimed at accelerating business growth and driving economic development throughout the country.
