Kow Essuman, the Legal Counsel to the President, has made a significant declaration regarding the trajectory of Ghana’s leadership, asserting that Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia epitomizes the future of the nation, while former President John Dramani Mahama represents the past.
These remarks arise amidst ongoing political discussions as the country gears up for the forthcoming 2024 general elections. Mr. Essuman contended that Dr. Bawumia possesses the essential qualities and vision required to usher Ghana into a new phase of development and prosperity.
In a post on X dated August 26, he underscored the Vice President’s accomplishments in leading critical initiatives, particularly in digital transformation and economic management. According to Mr. Essuman, Dr. Bawumia’s progressive mindset and innovative strategies have established him as a leader capable of tackling the challenges faced by contemporary Ghana and ensuring sustainable growth.
Conversely, Mr. Essuman characterized former President Mahama as a relic of the past, whose administration is linked to economic mismanagement and lost opportunities.
He criticized Mahama’s presidency, citing issues such as the power crisis, escalating public debt, and allegations of corruption as indicators that the former President’s policies were ineffective and harmful to the nation.
The President’s legal counsel emphasized that reverting to Mahama’s leadership would represent a regression for Ghana. Mr. Essuman’s statements align with the broader narrative being advanced by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as they strive to retain their power in the upcoming elections.
By presenting Dr. Bawumia as the candidate of the future, the NPP seeks to juxtapose his dynamic leadership approach with what they characterize as the outdated and unsuccessful policies of the opposition.
Bawumia represents the future. His main opponent represents the past. We are not talking about the immediate past, oh. This was almost a decade ago past. Two governments ago passed.
