DR. BAWUMIA’S DUTY REDUCTION POLICY AIMS TO CURB SMUGGLING FROM TOGO – NANA AKOMEA

Nana Akomea has praised Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s approach to import duties as one of the most effective strategies to combat the smuggling of goods into Ghana.

On Sunday, August 18, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia unveiled his manifesto at GSTS in Takoradi, outlining his plans should he be elected President in 2025.

Among the various initiatives he proposed, he emphasized the introduction of a system aimed at lowering import duties for Ghanaians, which Dr. Bawumia asserts will enhance the economic productivity of Ghana.

During a discussion on Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” show, Nana Akomea responded to critics by explaining the importance of this policy for the nation’s development.

He noted that the relatively low import duties in Togo foster smuggling, thus asserting that Dr. Bawumia’s import duty policy will effectively address this issue.

When you check the statistics, there’s a lot of smuggling coming into Ghana from Lomé…Lomé is on the border and there is frequent smuggling because many people take their cars, machines, drinks, and a whole lot of commodities to pass there because their port duties are minimal.
