Kwamena Duncan has criticized the 24-hour economy initiative proposed by former President John Dramani Mahama, who believes it will enhance productivity in Ghana.
Recently, the former President and current flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress unveiled his manifesto at the University of Education, Winneba, detailing the policies he plans to implement to improve the living standards of Ghanaians if he is re-elected.
One of the key policies is his flagship program known as the “24-hour economy,” which he described as a system that would operate on a three-shift or eight-hour basis.
In explaining how this initiative would function under his administration, Mr. Mahama noted that nightclubs would operate around the clock.
During a discussion on Peace FM’s ‘Kokrokoo’ program, Kwamena Duncan, a former Minister for the Central Region, expressed his skepticism regarding the practicality of nightclubs operating in three shifts.

He raised concerns regarding the practicality of the 24-hour economy strategy, stating that nightclub operators are inquiring about its operational viability.

Kwamena Duncan has characterized the NDC manifesto as lacking substance and urged Ghanaians to be wary of the opposition leader’s appeals.
The field is now plain and clear that when you do comparison, the NDC manifesto is empty because we would have known the details of their headline slogan which is the 24-hour economy. The details they have offered us are that they will run a three/eight-hour shift. So, if you are President, you will be President from the morning to a certain time. If you are a Chief Director, it means we will have a Chief Director who will in the morning, a Chief Director who will work from the afternoon to evening and a Chief Director who will start from the evening till dawn.
If it was not democracy, we wouldn’t have a group that would so much disrespect the nation because if you talk about 24-hour three shift, you have virtually nothing in it.
