DR. BAWUMIA CALLS FOR PROFESSIONAL MANAGEMENT OF NATIONAL STADIUM PITCHES

Ghana’s Vice President and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has stressed the urgent need for professional management of pitches at the country’s national stadiums.

Speaking during a media engagement on Sunday, Dr. Bawumia lamented the poor state of maintenance at various stadiums, emphasizing the necessity of bringing in trained professionals to ensure the proper upkeep of these facilities.

He revealed that the NPP manifesto includes a commitment to providing international standard pitches, a promise made in response to concerns raised by Black Stars coach Otto Addo and the players.

“One of the problems we have is the lack of maintenance of our pitches. I met with the Black Stars in Kumasi before their last game, and the coach and players made it clear that they need an international standard pitch because the pitches we have were difficult to play on,” Dr. Bawumia explained.

Highlighting the importance of proper management, he continued, “We need professional management in terms of the maintenance of our pitches, and we need to train people and bring in those with the knowledge. We just don’t have to build pitches without proper management.”

Additionally, Dr. Bawumia reiterated his government’s commitment to expanding sports infrastructure across the country. He noted that the NPP has already completed six multi-purpose stadiums, with four more nearing completion, and pledged to build similar facilities in the five remaining regions.

Dr. Bawumia’s statements underline the NPP’s dedication to improving sports infrastructure in Ghana, ensuring that the nation’s athletes have access to world-class facilities.
