TAILORS AND DRESSMAKERS PLEDGE STRONG SUPPORT FOR BAWUMIA

The Ghana Professional Tailors and Dressmakers Association has officially endorsed Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the presidential candidate of the ruling NPP, ahead of the 2024 general elections.

During their annual conference on Friday, August 30, 2024, at Wenchi in the Bono Region, Kofi Poku, the association’s National President, explained that their decision followed a thorough evaluation of the NPP’s track record and policies related to their sector.

The NPP has significantly supported professional tailors, dressmakers, and all artisans in the country. It was the NPP that professionalized our sector and association through essential legal and regulatory reforms, leading to global recognition of our certificates. Additionally, the party has heavily invested in our sector and implemented Free TVET. Hence, we have collectively resolved to support Dr. Bawumia and the NPP in the upcoming December elections.

The conference was honored by the presence of Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the NPP’s vice presidential candidate, and the Special Guest of Honor.

In his keynote address, Dr. Opoku Prempeh, formerly the Education Minister credited with the successful implementation of Free SHS and Free TVET, reaffirmed the NPP’s steadfast commitment to enhancing technical and vocational training.

Our party values the technical skills needed across various industries and emphasizes practical, hands-on training. This commitment led to the passage of the Education Regulatory Bodies Act 2020 (Act 1023) and the Pre-tertiary Education Act 2020 (Act 1049), which mandate the Commission for TVET (CoTVET) to regulate and promote TVET nationwide,

Dr. Opoku Prempeh, also known as NAPO, assured professional artisans that an NPP government under Bawumia would build on existing achievements and expand the Ghana Skills Development Fund to support apprenticeship training and job creation. He also pledged continued collaboration with the association to enhance curricula and global competitiveness.

NAPO was joined by Kennedy Ohene Agyapong (MP, Assin Central), Chairman Smith Buttey (NPP National Vice Chairman), Dr. Ayew Afriyie (MP, Effiduase Asokore), Joseph Quarm (former MP, Manso Nkwanta), Collins Owusu Amankwa (former MP, Manhyia North), Dr. Fred Kyei Asamoah (CEO, CoTVET and parliamentary candidate for Offinsu North), Henry Nana Boakye (National Organizer, NPP), among others.

Following the conference, the team continued their constituency-focused campaign tours to Wenchi, Kintampo South, and Techiman North, where they held meetings and community engagements with chiefs, religious leaders, and other key stakeholders.

Dr. Opoku Prempeh highlighted the NPP’s notable achievements and rallied support for Dr. Bawumia and the party’s parliamentary candidates: Kojo Frimpong for Wenchi, Alexander Gyan for Kintampo South, and Martin Oti Gyarko for Techiman North.
