The flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the 2024 elections, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has once again demonstrated his commitment to digital transformation and innovation in Ghana.
During his recent speech at the Bawumia Youth Connect event in Ayawaso West Wuogon, he highlighted groundbreaking achievements that position Ghana as a leader in digital advancements.
Dr. Bawumia proudly announced that the Ghana Card has achieved international recognition, now accepted at 44,000 airports and locations worldwide. Furthermore, he emphasized Ghana’s pioneering role in integrating national databases, stating that this innovation not only enhances efficiency but also sets Ghana apart as a global leader in digital identity management.
We have registered the Ghana Card with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) in Montreal, making it possible for Ghanaians to use it for international travel if their passport is lost. This is a historic first for Africa
For the first time, we have combined the National ID, Ghana Health Service, and the Birth and Death Registry databases. Newborns now receive both a Ghana Card ID and a birth certificate simultaneously
Dr. Bawumia emphasized the success of digitizing medical records across the country. He noted that the process has been completed in all teaching, regional, and district hospitals, allowing patients to access their medical history using their ID card number rather than physical folders.
