ELECTION 2024: THE NARRATIVE HAS CHANGED, MOMENTUM IS ON OUR SIDE – BAWUMIA

Mahamudu Bawumia, the presidential candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has remarked that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is not as confident about winning the 2024 elections as they were a year ago.

Speaking on the shift in political dynamics, Bawumia said, “The narrative has changed, and momentum is now on our side. Our opponents, who were confident a year ago, now seem more frustrated as they see their chances of winning slipping away.”

On September 9, 2024, Bawumia became the first candidate to submit his nomination papers to officially contest the upcoming presidential election at the Electoral Commission’s headquarters.

During an address at the NPP’s headquarters that same day, he urged party supporters to unite and work diligently in every constituency and polling station, ensuring they mobilize people effectively on election day. He highlighted the party’s achievements, encouraging Ghanaians to recognize what the NPP has accomplished.

Using a metaphor of a “bad driver” and a “good driver,” Bawumia portrayed himself as the “mate” ready to take over from the good driver, steering the country forward.

In a critique of former president John Mahama, he took aim at his policies, saying, “We are moving this country into the digital age, but you want to take us back to a time when schools lacked basic supplies like chalk.” Bawumia contrasted the NPP’s approach with Mahama’s, emphasizing that the current government is distributing laptops to senior high school students and looking towards the future.

He concluded with a bold statement: “The bus is in Walewale, and the mate is ready to drive it to Paga and beyond, transforming Ghana along the way.”
