DR. BAWUMIA WILL BOOST AGRIBUSINESS – NAPO

Ghanaian farmers and other stakeholders in agriculture have been assured that their welfare will receive significant attention and support under Dr. Bawumia’s government.

Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) vice-presidential candidate, emphasized the NPP’s recognition of agriculture as a key driver of national development.

He announced that a government led by Dr. Bawumia would implement policies designed to enhance agribusinesses, bringing immense benefits to stakeholders in the agricultural sector.

During a campaign stop at Kejeji in the Sene East District of the Bono East Region on Friday, Dr. Prempeh, popularly known as ‘Napo,’ reaffirmed that agribusinesses would see significant growth.

He stated that the next NPP administration would provide the necessary financial, technical, and other forms of support to ensure agribusinesses thrive across the country.

The potential for creating thousands of new jobs in agribusiness, especially in food security, food exports, and AgriTech, is tremendous. Under Dr. Bawumia’s leadership, we plan to make substantial investments and reforms in the sector, including agricultural research, food production, preservation, and value addition,

He highlighted key initiatives that a Bawumia-Napo government would pursue to promote agribusiness.

We will establish agricultural enclaves in each region based on its competitive advantage, in collaboration with the private sector,

he announced.

The government also plans to strategically invest in research and develop digital and AI technologies to improve food production and distribution.

This will help enhance production, reduce post-harvest losses, and improve packaging for longer shelf life, as well as support farming under arid conditions and boost agricultural mechanization,

Napo also stated that Development Bank Ghana (DBG) would be directed to expand its financing and guarantee lines, particularly through the establishment of the proposed SME Bank.

The SME Bank will support businesses involved in producing valuable agricultural products widely consumed in Ghana, such as processed and packaged basic food items,

he explained.

The government would also accelerate the growth of agro-industries through financial support and guarantees from Development Bank Ghana (DBG) and the Ghana Incentive-Based Risk-Share System for Agricultural Lending (GIRSAL).
