The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has been warned to avoid unnecessary attacks on the Electoral Commission (EC) as the December 7 elections approach.
Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the Vice Presidential Candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), issued this warning, emphasizing that the NDC should not provoke tension in the lead-up to the elections.
He noted that the NDC’s ambition to win should not cloud the judgment of its leaders, particularly former President John Mahama, as it could jeopardize the peace, progress, and security of the nation.
During a meeting with chiefs and religious leaders in New Edubiase, Ashanti region, Dr. Prempeh, also known as ‘Napo,’ stated that while political parties have the right to question the EC, they should do so with respect.
He urged all political parties to ensure their interactions with the EC do not undermine the integrity and fairness of the electoral body, which is constitutionally mandated to oversee the elections.

The NPP vice presidential candidate also voiced concerns about the NDC’s efforts to portray the EC as a biased organization intent on rigging the elections for a particular party. He highlighted that such unfounded and unpatriotic actions by the NDC could easily incite tension and disrupt national peace, urging the party and its leadership to prioritize the country’s stability and progress.

He urged everyone to play a vital role in protecting and maintaining the peace enjoyed in the country before, during, and after the elections, emphasizing that any disturbances could hinder the nation’s development.
