DR. BAWUMIA WOULD BUILD ON GHANA’S GOOD AGRICULTURAL TRACK RECORD – DR. FRANK BANNOR

The vision of Vice President and NPP Flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia on digital talent development is critical for Ghana’s capacity to compete in the quickly changing global economy propelled by the Fourth Industrial Revolution, according to Dr. Frank Bannor, Head of Research at the Danquah Institute and Development Economist.

In his remarks, Dr. Bannor mentioned the Ministry of Food and Agriculture’s data, which showed notable advancements in Ghana’s rice output. Prior to 2017, Ghana imported over 900,000 metric tons of rice a year, accounting for $2.6 billion of the nation’s agricultural product expenditures, mostly from the importation of poultry, wheat, and rice. But by 2023, 440,000 metric tons of rice were imported, with Ghana reaching over 50% self-sufficiency in the grain.

He highlighted that Dr. Bawumia would build on this track record to significantly cut agricultural imports and ascribed this success to the Akufo-Addo government’s policies. He also described Dr. Bawumia’s strategies for investing in commercial, mechanized, and irrigated farming and reducing post-harvest losses.

He maintained that the country’s stability dependsed on food, and that Dr. Bawumia’s administration will give agriculture first priority as a means of boosting the economy. He underlined how far infrastructural development, industrialization, and agriculture have come during the NPP administration. He conveyed his belief that Dr. Bawumia will uphold and expand upon these achievements in order to create a better future.
